[ARCHIVED] YARD WASTE BAG SHORTAGE

Due to unexpected high demand and extended growing season, the City of Brookings Solid Waste Collection Department has depleted its inventory of yard waste bags for 2014 and is asking the residents to please check with your local businesses listed below who carry the yard waste bags:
• Wal-Mart• Lowe’s Home Improvement
• Runnings• Hy-Vee Food Store
• Hy-Vee Gas Station• Lewis Drug
• Homestead Do-It-Center• Gas ‘N Mor

With the shortage of yard waste bags, the Solid Waste Collection Department is giving residents the option of placing any leaves/grass clippings in a garbage can for curbside collection or residents may haul their leaves/grass clippings out to the Landfill free of charge until November 22, 2014. Plastic bags are not compostable and should not be used for leaves/grass clippings.

If you have any questions, please call the Solid Waste Department at (605) 693-3667.
