The public is invited to attend a diversity potluck on Sunday, April 14, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the McCrory Gardens Visitor Information and Education Center which is located on 22nd Avenue across from Wal-Mart.
The potluck will feature dishes from an array of ethnic and international origins. The evening is an opportunity for members of the Brookings community and the SDSU student body to become acquainted.
“Besides enjoying delicious food, the diversity potluck is an excellent way to learn about your fellow Brookings residents and their heritage” said Lawrence Novotny, a member of the Brookings Human Rights Committee, the sponsor of the diversity potluck. The potluck is also sponsored by the SDSU Diversity, Equity & Community Office.
Those attending are asked to bring a food item (hotdish, salad, bread, or dessert) that is representative of their heritage. SDSU students are not required to bring a food item. Table service, chicken, coffee and punch will be provided.
One of the main objectives of the Brookings Human Rights Committee is to provide educational programs on diversity that will make Brookings a more welcoming and accepting community. The Brookings Human Rights Committee also has the responsibility of investigating issues of discrimination as provided by City Ordinance.
