The 8th Street South and Medary Avenue intersection project is scheduled to start on Monday, May 24, 2021, depending on weather. The project includes new traffic signals, curb & gutter, storm sewer, sidewalk, turn lanes and asphalt work. The contractor for the project is Timmons Construction, Inc. and the project is scheduled to be completed by early September 2021.
Starting Monday, May 24, 2021, Phase one will begin by closing a section of Medary Avenue on the north side of the intersection. Traffic control and signage will be installed along the detour routes to inform the public. After the north side of the intersection is complete, the contractor will start phase two by closing the south side of the intersection. Although temporary traffic signals will be in place during the construction project, there may be traffic delays. The detour routes are shown on the attached map.
During a majority of the project, 8th Street South will be open to east/west traffic. However, there will certain times when the entire intersection of Medary Avenue South and 8th Street South will be closed to install underground work and traffic signal poles. During those times when the intersection is closed, please follow the detour signage.
The City would like to remind the public to use caution when driving or walking near the project area, especially around work areas under construction. We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project as the contractors work to construct the intersection improvements.
