Weekly Updates:
Brookings County (Highest Level of Spread)
- 5,319 total cases: 70 new cases this week vs. 43 in the previous week. Of the new cases this past week:
- 27% were under 20 years of age (vs. 25% last week)
- 47% were 20-39 years (vs. 44% last week)
- 19% were 40-59 years (vs. 26% last week)
- 7% were 60 years or older (vs. 5% last week)
- Since October 27th, the largest percentage increase in cases has been in the 30-39 year age group (6% increase, n=40). However, the largest increase in the number of cases has been in the 20-29 year age group (n=49). There have been 43 new cases in the less than 20 year age group.
- 139 active cases (110 last week)
- Test positivity (PCR) this past week was 8.0% compared to 4.9% last week. You want this below 5%, and the lower, the better.
- 163 Brookings County residents have been hospitalized with COVID: 2 new hospitalizations posted this past week compared to 0 in the previous week.
- 40 Brookings County residents have died of COVID: 1 new death was reported this past week compared to no deaths in the previous week.
- 53% of Brookings County residents and 54% of South Dakota residents have received at least one vaccine.
South Dakota (Highest Level of Spread)
- 164,292 cases: 3,300 new cases this week vs. 2,170 in the previous week. Of the new cases this past week:
- 23% were under 20 years of age (vs. 21% last week)
- 32% were 20-39 years (vs. 33% last week)
- 27% were 40-59 years (vs. 26% last week)
- 18% were 60 years or older (vs. 20% last week)
- 7,080 active cases (6,663 last week)
- Test positivity (PCR) this past week was 15.8% compared to 15.5% the previous week. You want this below 5%, and the lower, the better.
- 8,339 South Dakota residents have been admitted to in-state hospitals with COVID: 128 people were admitted to in-state hospitals this week vs. 145 last week. Of those admitted this past week:
- 4% were less than 20 years of age (vs. 1% last week)
- 15% were 20-39 years (vs. 11% last week)
- 26% were 40-59 years (vs. 28% last week)
- 55% were 60 years of age and older (vs. 60% last week)
- 231 people currently hospitalized vs. 239 hospitalized last Wednesday (67 currently in the ICU vs. 66 last week)
- 2,320 South Dakotans have died from COVID: 23 deaths reported this week vs. 20 in the previous week. Of those who died this past week:
- 3 was 40-59 years
- 20 were 60 years of age & older

- 48.83 million cases: 673,839 new cases this week vs. 624,841 in the previous week
- 796,319 total deaths: 10,051 deaths this week vs. 7,952 in the previous week
