The Camelot Square Drainage Improvement Project began on Monday, July 30th, 2012. This project includes the improvement of the City of Brookings Storm Sewer System, sanitary sewer main extension, water main adjustments, sanitary and water service adjustments, unclassified excavation, removal of asphalt, curb and gutter, driveway approaches, sidewalk, installation of storm sewer, base course, curb and gutter, concrete driveway approaches, and asphalt surfacing. Bowes Construction, Inc. is the General Contractor.
A Construction Progress Meeting will be held every other Thursday at 5:00 PM at the City/County Government Center in Community Room #300 located at 520 3rd Street. The general public is welcome to attend. A meeting schedule can be found on the City of Brookings website.
This week, the Contractor finished installing 48” arch pipe along Christine Avenue north of King Arthur Court. Two drop inlets were installed along the east side of Christine Avenue north of 12th Street South and were tied into the box culvert with 18” RCP. 12th Street South was opened back up to traffic on Wednesday as well. The junction box in the 12th Street South and Christine Avenue intersection had adequate strength to backfill, and this allowed traffic to pass through 2/3 of the intersection. Bowes will have to close 12th Street South again next week to perform water and sewer service replacement and storm sewer installation.
The Contractor worked on installing valley gutter on the north side of 15th Street South and sidewalk ramps at Yorktown Drive along Christine Avenue. Junction Boxes were worked on this week as well. The bottom slab and walls were poured on junction box #3 located at Christine Avenue and King Arthur Court.
Junction box #4 and #5 bottom slabs were poured Friday. At junction box #4 and #5, existing 48” Arch storm sewer currently ran from Parkway Boulevard to behind Squire Court and would discharge south down the existing open channel just west of Christine Avenue. Now, this existing storm sewer that carries water from Parkway Boulevard will no longer flow through the existing open channel but will now flow through the newly installed box culvert down Christine Avenue.
Bowes continued working on topsoil placement between 15th Street South and Yorktown Drive. Bowes finished prepping base course and asphalt pavement was placed at 15th Street South and along Christine Avenue on Thursday and Friday. The contractor plans on paving the top lift of asphalt on Tuesday, October 16, and all asphalt paving will be completed along Christine Avenue between 15th Street South and Westminster Drive. The City of Brookings approved the Contractor’s plan to continue construction and get the project completed yet this fall. The Contractor plans on installing the rest of the storm sewer along Christine Avenue this coming week and will have another crew installing storm sewer and replacing water and sewer services along 12th Street South at the same time. Concrete work and asphalt paving is planned to follow close behind, and the Contractor plans on beginning work behind Squire Court around October 29. The Contractor plans on finishing all concrete work and asphalt paving by the first week of November. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during this important project.
