[ARCHIVED] Main Avenue South Paving Project Starting August 3rd

The contractors for the Main Avenue South Paving Project from 8th Street South to 20th Street South anticipate they will start the paving operation on Monday, August 3, 2015, depending on weather. They plan to begin paving the south-bound lanes first, then pave the north-bound lanes and the east/west lanes of 8th Street South will be paved last. Traffic control will be set up throughout the project and flaggers will guide vehicles into the proper lanes. Traffic may be diverted to side-streets during the 8th Street South paving. The contractor will install temporary striping and lane markings before the final striping is installed.

The contractors will continue to work on the traffic signal at the intersection of Main Avenue South and 8th Street South and they will finish the paving operation in the intersection after the new traffic signal installation is complete.

The City would like to remind the public to use caution when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction. If possible, vehicles should use alternate routes during the paving operation, and to allow ample time due to the detours and traffic congestion. We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project and we are looking forward to the enhanced Main Avenue South roadway.
