Construction has continued on the Main Avenue South Paving Project from 8th Street South to 20th Street South. The contractor for the project is Bowes Construction Co., Inc. and the project is administered and inspected by the local staff of the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) office. The project includes milling and an asphalt overlay of the street surface, pavement markings, replacement of deteriorated curbs, new accessible curb ramps at each intersection along the project route, and traffic signal upgrades and lane widening at the intersection of Main Avenue South and 8th Street South.
Bowes Construction anticipates they will begin the milling operations this week and they will mill across the entire street surface on Main Avenue South. They anticipate they will pave the asphalt overlay within the next 3 weeks. The contractor will keep one lane of traffic open in each direction during the milling and paving operations. The public is encouraged to use alternate routes during the paving operation. The traffic signal upgrades at Main Avenue South and 8th Street South will also be completed with this project.
The City would like to remind the public to use caution when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction. We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project and we are looking forward to the enhanced Main Avenue South roadway.
