The week will include numerous activities around Brookings in observance of Earth Day, Arbor Day and the dedication of Dakota Nature Park and Larson Nature Center. Below is a list of opportunities for patrons to participate in the festivities. All events are free of charge.
Saturday, April 18th
• Pick-up the Park – Dakota Nature Park from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Participants will meet in the Larson Nature Center parking lot.
- Bags and plastic gloves will be provided.
Friday, April 24th
• Arbor Day Run for Shade 5K – SDSU Performing Arts Center: registration begins at 5:30 am and the run starts at 6:30 am - Refreshments and tree give-away after the run.
• Arbor Day Tree Give-Away for 3rd Graders – Various times and school district locations
• Owl Prowl – Dakota Nature Park from 8:30-10:30 pm. Participants will meet in the Larson Nature Center parking lot.
- Sponsored by the Brookings Optimist Club.
Saturday, April 25th
• Bird-Banding Demonstration – Dakota Nature Park from 9:00 - 10:30 am. Participants will meet in the Larson Nature Center parking lot.
• Arbor Day Tree Dedication – Larson Nature Center parking lot at 11:30 am.
• Dakota Nature Park and Larson Nature Center Dedication – Larson Nature Center parking lot at 12:00 pm.
• Free Equipment Rentals and Instruction – Larson Nature Center from 12:20 – 3:00 pm
• Mascot Naming Contest, Astronomy Demonstration, East Pond Fishing and other fun events– Dakota Nature Park from 12:20 – 3:00 pm
