Brookings Human Rights Commission - Bystander to Upstander Training

Saturday, April 10, 2021

The Brookings Human Rights Commission is hosting a Bystander to Upstander Zoom Training. It is free and open to the Brookings Community. There are 8 spots currently available for this training.

An interactive scenario-based session preparing participants for real-life encounters. The activity-based workshop focuses on tactical interventions. This training includes general instruction in bias interruption; courageous listening exercises; and culturally specific insights and role-playing with tips and real tools for effective de-escalation, respectful intervention, and social accountability.
Bystander to Upstander provides tactics for engaging in safe and effective interactions, generates resources and organizing tools for expanding the conversation, and creates safe spaces to discuss hate and bias in the workplace and beyond. Group exercises offer opportunities for individuals to work through incidents with peer coaching and continual dialog, building a repertoire of actionable responses. Scenario cards, response tips sheets, group feedback, and professional assistance are provided in this authentic skill-building session.
The session is offered through Diversity Council -- an organization based in Rochester, MN. They have thirty-one years of experience as one of Minnesota's leaders in diversity and equity. They offer communities expertise and resources to work toward achieving equity, inclusivity, and respect for the dignity of every individual.
